Wonderful as is the development of modern machinery for the manufacture of American textiles—machinery which seems almost human in the way it converts raw materials into finished cloth; just as surprising are the most primitive looms of the American aborigines, who without the aid of machinery make interesting weavings with only a bar upon which to suspend the warp threads while the human hand completes all the processes of manufacture. Modern man's inventive genius in the textile art has been expended upon perfecting the machinery, while primitive man's ingenuity has resulted in making a beautiful weaving with very simple means. No doubt could we know the history of primitive loom work in America prior to the coming of the white man, we would find an extended distribution of weaving, but all early textiles have been lost owing to the destructability of the material and the lack of climatic and Other conditions suitable for their preservation—conditions such as are present in the hot desert lands of the Southwest and the coast region of Peru. However, so many impressions of weavings have been found on early pottery as to assure us that beautiful work of this kind was made in eastern, middle and southern United States. In western British Columbia at the present time there are tribes carrying on certain forms of weaving which show four interesting types. Kwakiutl squaw, weawing FIGURE 1.—KWAKIUTL SQUAW, WEAVING

This publication is a paper read before The National Association of Cotton Manufacturers in April of 1910.Ms.Kissell addresses advances in textile manufacturing while reflecting on ingenuity of man creating textiles by simple means. She discusses different type of Native American weaving. Her presentation references many photos, which unfortunately were not included in my Kindle edition. I found that very disappointing.
Ms. Kissell describes the techniques of creating various textiles with the specific details of how the threads were woven. As a weaver I found those details particularly interesting. They were quite intricate and clever. I only wish I could see the photos to visualize the results!
She finishes her paper stating that it will continue to amaze us how people using the crude devices were able to produce such wonderful results which compare favorably with the modern weaving (at the peak of textile revolution).
The description of the Native American techniques were worth my time to read the brief publication. I am giving it 4 stars for the frustration of references to images which I could not see.

Aboriginal American Weaving eBook Mary Lois Kissell Reviews
I ordered this book for my kindle the book came in good working order the content was not very informative
The written word gives one the idea, but the pictures that are indicated by (figure 1) (figure 2) (figure 3) etc; would make what you're reading much easier to understand and maybe reproduce. That it is short is the best part.
Much too concise in information and scope. Photographs were poor. This was a short paper done in 1910.
This is not even a book -- at roughly 12 pages, it's essentially a rather long news article, and not a very good one. It also reflects the era in which it was written, using offensive terminology. Additionally, it is missing the pictures it references throughout. A complete waste of time.
